At april, we believe tax filing and planning should live inside the financial platforms American taxpayers already use and trust, creating simpler experiences for filers, and more tax-aware financial journeys year-round.

This tax season, we were proud to embed our DIY and Expert Filing experiences into leading financial institutions and wealth management platforms, helping turn one of the most complex financial workflows into a more intuitive, integrated experience for millions of filers.

This year, our results and momentum made one thing clear: the future of tax is embedded.

A deeper dive into this the 2025 tax season

After only 4 years of partnering with financial institutions and wealth management platforms, april has become 8th largest online tax provider in the country and processed:

1.4 million federal and state tax returns

$2 billion in tax refunds and payments

8M pages of tax forms using AI to extract data

We achieved these milestones, all while maintaining a NPS score of 76. To achieve this, we rolled out a number of powerful AI-driven capabilities that made the filing experience seamless, efficient, and accurate:

AI powered return review

At the end of the season, we rolled out a powerful AI tax return review, which automatically ingests all of a taxpayer’s information across our platform and proactively identifies errors and / or savings opportunities. This feature is currently available to Tax Pros using april’s platform to prepare a Professional return.

Automatic prefill of existing & AI extraction of uploaded tax form data

We automatically included any client details that a financial institution already has on file - including personal details, account information, and relevant financial data - into the filing experience. Taxpayers were also able to upload tax documents in bulk, and our proprietary OCR capabilities automatically recognized those documents and prefilled relevant data. These capabilities minimized manual entry and risk of error and enabled a faster path to completion.

A dynamic tax dependency graph

Our dynamic tax dependency graph cuts unnecessary questions in real time, shortening the filing experience from 8 hours to 20 minutes. Rather than forcing every filer through the same long interview flow, we ask only what is actually relevant to their situation.

AI-assisted issue resolution

We scaled our in-app chatbot that answered customer questions with a 70% resolution rate. For our professional filing product, we automatically scanned user questions and generated draft answers based on each filer’s data for our tax professionals to review and approve, combining the efficiency of AI with the judgment and oversight of licensed professionals.

Conclusion

This tax season was about more than performance. It proved that embedded tax delivers value for both financial institutions and their customers.

april’s infrastructure has made white-labeled, deeply integrated tax experiences possible. If you’re thinking about how to bring tax into your product experience, we’d love to talk.
